Mr. Hussein Thomasi, Solicitor General and Legal Secretary, Ministry of Justice, The Gambia Mr. Hussein Thomasi is the Solicitor General & Legal Secretary at the Ministry of Justice. He is a Gambian by nationality and married with three children. He served as Adviser to the Minister of Justice from 2017 before his appointment as Solicitor General in December 2020. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Lagos and a master’s degree in international legal studies at American
University, Washington. He was subsequently called to the Nigerian Bar and the Gambian Bar after completion of his professional training at the Nigerian Law School in June 1987. He also received further training on development law from the International Development Law Institute in Rome, Italy in 1990

Mr. Thomasi started his career in 1987-1994, as a State Counsel. He was subsequently promoted to
Senior State Counsel and later elevated to Principal State Counsel at the Ministry of Justice.
From 1994 – 1996, Mr. Thomasi proceeded as a Legal Manager and subsequently Managing Director
at the Assets Management Recovery Corporation (AMRC). Mr. Thomasi was also Head of Legal Unit, Central Bank of The Gambia from 1996 - 1998, before
becoming Director Legal Affairs, West African Monetary Institute in Accra, Ghana from 2001 - 2014.
Mr. Thomasi currently serves as a Co- Agent in the case of the Republic of The Gambia vs The Republic of the Union of Myanmar before the International Court of Justice and very passionate about human
rights matters.
